Unity Theatre in Liverpool transforms into a forest as fevered sleep cast a magic spell.

Renowned children’s theatre company Fevered Sleep arrive at unitytheatre, Liverpool for National Children’s Theatre day on 20th March with The Forest, a thrilling new performance for children aged 3+, combining dance, images, sound and light. Part of LEAP 2010.

There is a place at the very heart of the forest. A place where things are not quite what they seem. People become animals, birds become music, wood becomes water, leaves become light. Everything changes, everything moves, it’s all around you, it’s full of adventure, it’s bursting with life… it’s the forest!

This forest has real trees, but what you will see is not a story set in a forest. Starting from the notion that forests are mythical places of transformation the Forest looks at what a forest is – nature and animals, scale, space and distance, repeated forms, becoming lost, wandering, finding a path, and travelling through. Full of movement, rhythm, texture, sound and sensuality, it is a place of heightened perception and of surprise.

The forest is the latest in a series of performance pieces for children, best known of which is the trilogy which takes everyday rituals as starting points for creative events; Feast Your Eyes (a response to food and mealtime) And The Rain Falls Down (water and bath time) and Brilliant (bedtime). This is an extension of that work, using dance theatre to create a mystical world. Like all Fevered Sleep’s work for children, it is created through working closely with children, so that a child’s perception and understanding of forests can be fundamental to the material.

Fevered Sleep produce a wide range of theatrical and visual forms, with movement, the expressive body and the use of light and sound underpinning all their performances. The Forest is directed, choreographed and co-designed by David Harradine, Artistic Director of Fevered Sleep, with Fevered Sleep Associate Director Sam Butler and Technical Designer Ali Beale.

It will be performed by Robin Dingemans, Sachi Kimura and Petra Soor, all dancers and choreographers in their own right, Lighting by Hansjorg Schmidt and music by Jamie McCarthy.
