Description
Scarlet Fever is a bacterial (streptococcal) throat infection with an incubation period of 1-5 days.
Symptoms
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Loss of appetite and vomiting
- Later – red rash (like a red flush), beginning on the chest or neck and then spreading.
- The mouth area has no spots so looks particularly pale against the rash.
- Strawberry tongue – white tongue with projecting red spots.
Treatment
As it is a bacterial infection, antibiotics are given by the doctor.
