Fascinating for children and restful for parents: Vacations on the farm are an ideal type of vacation for families. Have you been on a country vacation yet or even on a farm? Do you know how dry hay smells on the meadow? Have you forgotten? Or perhaps you've never experienced it? Come out to the country at least once for your next vacation and see the most beautiful places in Germany. Carefree vacation days await you at each of the vacation farm areas approved by the DLG (German Agricultural Society). Out in the country, you will find something that you rarely find in conventional hotels and vacation spots. Instead of a hectic environment that leaves you feeling unacknowledged, you experience individual hospitality and a personal atmosphere.
To give you an example of a farm vacation, take a look at the Erharthof farm in Kochler Moos. There are two holiday flats in both the farmhouse and the former baking house, and five flats in the newly constructed holiday house. All three buildings are constructed in the typical local style. They are furnished in farmhouse style with lots of wood. The farmhouse and the new holiday house are heated with a wood-chip fired system.
Outdoors guests can relax in the large meadow with its campfire site. The main attractions for children are the large trampoline and the farm stream with its ducks. For bad weather there is a large games room with a table tennis table. The Erharthof has been farmed organically since 1980 (Bioland). The farm covers 40 hectares of woodland, 25 hectares of grassland and meadows. There are some 60 cows, cattle, and calves in the barn. For the children there are many petting animals and four riding ponies.
Farm accommodation approved by the DLG
All rooms have private bathrooms, and the vacation apartments are completely furnished. The hosts always look forward to meeting their new guests and often organize a colorful leisure-time program for those visiting, both young and old. And there's no end to the new experiences and discoveries you can make. Recuperate amidst the nature of Germany.
If you want a change from the relaxed atmosphere 'down on the farm' you might ilke to consider some cycling, hiking or even horseback riding.
You see more from a bicycle
Did you know that there are islands of peace and tranquillity within Germany? That there are regions, places, even whole landscapes whose beauty, unspoilt state and intensity opens up to cyclists in a way that cannot be experienced by any other type of travelling.
There are a wide selection of special cycle routes for families such as the Altmühl Valley Cycle Route and in the County of Bentheim, cyclists can get to know the region and its inhabitants over several hundred kilometres of specially conceived cycle routes.
Hiking
Germany is a traveler's paradise with its romantic forests, picturesque hill and mountain landscapes, and tranquilly embedded seas. From hikes along tidal shores to trips through the low mountain regions all the way to mountain-top tours, everything is possible. The proximity to nature, the countryside and the people allows the hiker to experience Germany intensively. Numerous trails lead through the most beautiful natural landscapes which can be divided into several stages for hiking trips. Along many of these routes are hotels and inns that provide specialized accommodations for hikers. Many trip-organizers offer comfortable "hiking without luggage" packages. Take a look at some of the scenic hiking routes.
Whether hiking, fishing, bicycling or horseback riding, you will find renewed strength just being in the great outdoors.
