Whether heading off to a festival, camping with friends and family or on the way to the beach, it is important that travel bags are packed with items to make sure the summer holidays are at their best.
From looking good on the beach to making sure you’re well equipped for little accidents, there are certain items that need to be in your portable first aid kit.
First Aid Items
Whether you’re putting up a tent at a festival with friends or putting the pegs in the ground with family, there’s not always a toilet area nearby to make sure hands are clean (especially before deciding to cook a bite to eat) so it’s important to have a way to cleanse your hands. Savlon Anti-bacterial Hand Gel is a quick and effective way of keeping your hands clean and germ free, especially the little ones. And at only £2.30 for 100ml, it’s almost a must to have packed.
For those little cuts and scrapes, Savlon has introduced a new Spray Plaster. The Savlon Spray Plaster has antiseptic upon application and seals out water, dirt and germs, which is great for areas that bend such as elbows and knees. A 40ml can is priced at £6.19.
Along with the summer sun and outdoor life also comes sunburn, insect bites and heat rash. Eurax (for use on children three years old and above) is one of those products that can help relieve itch from irritations. The Eurax Cream comes in various sizes including 30g at £3.48.
If you’re children suffer from blocked nasal passages, which can happen with so much pollen around, there are new Tixylix Saline Nasal Drops. Saline drops are recommended by the NHS and DoH for children under six with nasal congestion (and above three months old). They contain a sterile, isotonic saline solution, with a salt concentration equivalent to our bodies, making them naturally safe. The saline drops help to clear blocked nasal passages by loosening the mucus. Containing added moisturiser (castor oil) the nasal drops are gentle on delicate noses and can help to alleviate any redness of the skin.
It’s also important to have a full first-aid kit on-hand. These can either be bought at a chemist or many of the outdoor stores like Black’s and Cotswold Outdoor carry these.
Health & Beauty
Ladies’, if your feet feel itchy and look cracked and scaled from time to time, then you probably suffer from athlete’s feet. Lamisil® AT for women can relieve these and other common symptoms of athlete’s foot, helping your feet to feel and look beautiful and healthy for the summer.
Lamisil AT 1% Cream and Lamisil AT 1% Spray for women contain an effective active ingredient (terbinafine hydrochloride) to relieve you from these symptoms and provide long lasting protection from athlete’s foot. Lamisil AT 1% Cream moisturises your skin and Lamisil AT 1% Spray gives you cooling relief. You will be able to recognise it on shelf from its pretty feminine purple packaging design. A 15g tube will only set you back £6.29.
Guys, Lamisil also makes a single dose treatment that lasts up to three months called Lamisil Once.
- Have frequent barefoot moments during the day. Try to be barefoot whenever you can to give your feet some fresh air and freedom from the constriction of shoes. Closed shoes and high temperatures can often lead to sweaty, uncomfortable feet that are prone to blisters and encourage fungal infections (like athlete’s foot). Even sandals can cause problems, as the tops of feet can get sunburnt, heels can crack and straps can rub if poorly fitted.
- Moisturise your skin regularly. Especially during the summer time when your skin is prone to dryness. Try to keep it moisturised so your feet look and feel healthy.
- Wear flip-flops in public showers. Whether you’re at the gym or a campsite shower room, be sure to wear flip-flops.
While everyone wants to come back from holiday with some colour, and a little of the sun’s Vitamin D is good for us, be sure to use a high SPF sun cream. Your skin will thank you later in life and we all know it is a way to keep skin healthy and cancer free.
