This February half term, National Museums Liverpool is hosting free events, exhibitions and workshops for all the family throughout the week. Some of the many highlights include the opening of the Lady Lever Art Gallery Activity Rooms which happened on 13 February 2010, the exciting new interactive exhibition, Plantastic! at World Museum and the Merseyside Maritime Museum’s beautiful exhibition China: Through the Lens of John Thompson.
World Museum
Plantastic!
13 February – 5 September, 2010
A major interactive science exhibition exploring the secret world of plants. Revealing their inner workings, lifecycle, variety, complexity, functionality and beauty as well as their interdependence with insects and animals. The exhibition will also explore environmental issues and the importance of plants to the survival of the planet.
Developed in partnership with the Museon, Technopolis, Le Vaisseau and Bruns.
Family workshops
Every Sunday 2.30-4pm
Free family workshops in the Weston Discovery Centre. Make a shadow puppet from Java, learn about ancient writing from Egypt, gold weights from Ghana or draw like an archaeologist.
Creepy crawly tour

Merseyside Maritime Museum
China: Through the Lens of John Thomson 1868- 1872

An exhibition of work by Scottish photographer and travel writer John Thomson. The range and depth of his images, taken around the regions of China in the early 1870s mark him out as one of the most important travel photographers in history. The photographs are part of the Wellcome Library, London.
