Join the unforgettable three night miniature railway and wildlife park escape at The Place at the Beach
The Place at the Beach provides the perfect location to escape to this half term with an abundance of activities to do right on your doorstep. The 3 day escape allows for plenty of exploring and offers something for every family. On the first day, take the time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Take a walk along the deserted sandy beach, or alternatively lie back and enjoy the facilities the hotel has to offer including DVD’s, board games and books.
On the second day, wake up to a hearty breakfast and just 15 minutes drive from the hotel is the famous Romany, Hythe and Dymchurch miniature steam railway, perfect for children and adults alike. First opened to traffic in July 1927 as the 'World's Smallest Public Railway' and now covering a distance of 13.5 miles from the picturesque Cinque Port of Hythe, to the fisherman’s cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness. To give you a head start to your trip-planning, all day passes are included in the great value package. Within the day pass is free admission to the model railway exhibition at New Romney.
On the next day head out on a guided tour of the PortLympneWildlifePark. The park is home to the largest breeding herd of black rhinos outside Africa as well as tigers, elephants, monkeys, gorillas, Barbary lions and many more rare and fascinating creatures. Explore the Discovery Zone where you’ll find animals such as snakes, tarantulas and zebra mice. Not only is entrance to the park included but so is ‘ The African Experience Safari’ , and a good old fachioned packed lunch of homemade scotch eggs and local delights which you can enjoy on the terrace overlooking the park before boarding your safari vehicle once more.
For your final day, you don’t have to rush back home, use the day to enjoy some of the local attractions, such as the RyeHarbour nature reserve which is just 10 minutes drive away, BodiumCastle just 20 minutes drive, or amble along the streets of the picturesque village of Rye. Alternatively spend the rest of the day relaxing in the stunning surroundings.
The coastline of East Sussex is one of the last undiscovered secrets of England, home to hundreds of square miles of protected nature reserves, wild shingle foreshores and some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the country. The Place at the Beach sits just 60 metres from this stretch of natural beauty and provides a retreat that mirrors its natural surroundings and leaves no doubt that you are beside the seaside. Wake up in the morning and head over the dunes for a walk to build up an appetite or spend the day on the beach building sand castles and beachcombing. If you’re brave dip your toes in the sea but watch out for the waves!
To cater for families, a special dinner time for the children has been arranged so that they can eat early, allowing the adults to enjoy a peaceful three course dinner every evening without the children, making half term a holiday for parents too!
