The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell is a great day out for all ages.
The main attraction is an exciting hands on, interactive science and nature
exhibition.Young budding scientists will spend any hours exploring and
discovering over 70 bright, fun filled exhibits within five themes zones.
In the Sound and Communication zone visitors can try and make water dance in
the Resonant Bowl, listen to their voice in the Echo Tube or try to blow some
Slow Bubbles. Step into the magical Light and Colour zone and you can ‘pluck’
the laser beams of the Light Harp to make a little light music or freeze your
shadow on a wall. Move over to the Woodland and Wildlife zone to build a Camp
Fire and not burn your food, see the colourful Four Seasons Oak Tree or climb
through the Giant Mole Hole. In the Forces and Movement zone you can make your
own short film with Animate It, build a Wobbly Bridge or try to steady the
Balancing Broomsticks. Upstairs in the Body and Perception zone you can find
out how hard your heart muscles work with Beat Your Heart or see if you can
work out our amazing puzzles on the Puzzle Carousel.
In the exhibition there is The Look Out tower. Climb the eighty eight steps
and see over the Centre towards Bracknell and beyond.
Solly, the centre’s resident robotic owl makes regular appearances to
the public during the weekend at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm, which
makes him a firm favourite. He can shrug his shoulders, move and spin around.
Ask him a question – he may even tell you a joke!
In the surrounding 2,600 acres of Crown Estate woodland, visitors can enjoy
nature walks, a picnic area, child's play area. In the Coffee Shop you can
relax over a cup of tea or take a break and have a hot lunch. The Gift Shop
offers a wonderful range of gifts for every occasion or weird and wacky
presents, ideal for birthday party bags at the right price. For the more
adventurous there are cycle trails, with child and adult mountain bike hire
(contact Wellington Trek on 01344 772797) or you can bring your own. This
offers an action packed day for the whole family at very reasonable prices.
For a complete day out why not bring along your swimming gear and visit Coral
Reef, Bracknell’s Water World opposite The Look Out.
